Guidelines for Pilots

General

In an effort to establish uniformity, maintain safety and assure smooth flight operations, the Board of Directors of the Green Castle Aero Club, LTD is establishing a series of guidelines governing the use of aero club aircraft. The Green Castle Aero Club, LTD is a corporation in which all members are stockholders and part-owners of aero club aircraft. Therefore, it is in the best interests of the corporation and its stockholders, that adherence to the guidelines described here be maintained. Because of the non-commercial and social club structure of the Green Castle Aero Club, LTD, we hope that an atmosphere of common sense will prevail and that members will intuitively use proper judgment regarding their flying activities, care of aircraft and airport facilities and in their responsibilities to the corporation in general. The guidelines provided below are subject to alteration based on responses received from the general membership. Please read these carefully and share your opinions with an officer of the club.

The Board of Directors believes that pilots should give special attention to three major issues. First, all pilots of club aircraft need to recognize their obligation in maintaining an understanding of the current Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs). Secondly, it is the responsibility of the pilot-in-command (PIC), not the Green Castle Aero Club, LTD, to assure that he/she satisfies the necessary FAR currency requirements and has been properly checked-out in the particular aero club aircraft to be flown.

Student pilots should pay particular attention to guidelines concerning their use of aero club aircraft. For example, no student may carry passengers, and students must obtain a verbal "O.K." before soloing each day

In addition to the guidelines provided below, members will receive an official copy of the by-laws of the Green Castle Aero Club, Ltd.

Pilot and Instructional Guidelines

1. Only members of the Green Castle Aero Club, LTD may pilot club aircraft.

2. To qualify as a pilot in a Green Castle Aero Club aircraft, the club member must:

A. be an active member of the aero club in good standing (see by-laws)

B. be qualified in the aircraft type

C. have achieved a level of piloting skill commensurate with the proposed flight

D. meet all FAR currency requirements

3. Individuals holding a pilot's license at the time of joining the club must take a check ride with an approved Green Castle Aero Club CFI before piloting each different type of aero club aircraft.

4. Only CFI's authorized by the Board of Directors of the Green Castle Aero Club may give instruction in aero club aircraft.

Rules of Use for Aircraft of the Green Castle Aero Club, LTD

1. All flights in aircraft owned by the Green Castle Aero Club. LTD must be conducted in accordance with current FARs.

2. All documents which are required by the FAA to be in the aircraft (the airworthiness certificate, current registration, operating manual and weight and balance data sheet) must be in the aircraft when it is flown. According to FARs, assurance of this is the responsibility of the PIC.

3. Each aero club aircraft has its own "Maintenance Logbook" which details time of usage, user's name, fuel loaded, oil added and any squawks concerning the condition of the aircraft. The is kept in the Flight Office.

4. It is the responsibility of the PIC to assure that the aircraft is airworthy.

5. Club aircraft may be used only on airports. Their off-airport use violate corporate by-laws and in such situations, the PIC must assume all responsibility for damages (see Financial Responsibilities, below).

6. The use of club aircraft for commercial purposes, other than as transportation on a business trip or for instruction of members by the aero club authorized CFI's, is prohibited.

7. Any night use of club aircraft must be done in strict accordance with FARs governing currency and on-board equipment.

8. Before each flight, the PIC must do the following:

A. Check oil level. In the case of any aero club aircraft, the amount added must be recorded in the Maintenance Log.

B. Check the fuel level. No aircraft can be flown without sufficient fuel to fly at least one hour more than the scheduled flight. Record the amount of fuel added in the Flight Office "Fuel Log".

C. Properly preflight the aircraft.

9. After each flight, the PIC must:

A. Refuel the aircraft if the fuel level is below one-half full, and record the amount added in the Fuel Log in the Flight Office.

B. Turn off all switches, lights, etc.

C. Remove all personal items from the aircraft.

D. Appropriately secure the aircraft (e.g. tie-down, lock controls, etc.) before leaving the aircraft.

10. Any member noting a malfunction of any type should place an obvious warning notice on the aircraft instrument panel and immediately notify the maintenance officer or another officer of the Green Castle Aero Club, LTD.

11. All members who encounter mechanical problems at an airport other than the Green Castle Airport should first notify by phone an officer of the aero club before authorizing repairs to be made away from Green Castle.

12. All expenses incurred at other airports (repair, fuel, etc.) must be paid by the member and a receipt submitted to the treasurer of the Green Castle Aero Club, LTD for deduction from the hourly rental fee. Credit is not approved for expenses such as airport tolls, tie-down fees and hanger fees.

13. All students must obtain a verbal "O.K." from a sanctioned Green Castle Aero Club CFI before flying solo at least once for each day of flying.

14. Students may not solo an aero club aircraft in a crosswind without authorization from a CFI of the Green Castle Aero Club, LTD.

Scheduling

1. All scheduling of Green Castle aircraft and instructors is accomplished by way of an internet-based scheduling system. Instructions for using the online system can be found by going to the scheduling page.

1. Short-term reservations for aircraft (two hours or less) will be automatically canceled if the reserve does not arrive within 30 minutes. If the plane is reserved for more than two hours, check with an aero club officer or the pilot who scheduled it before canceling the reservation.

2. Should a delay occur which will prevent flight termination at the scheduled termination time, a phone call should be made to notify an aero club officer of this fact. If no officer is available, leave a message on the club's answering machine.

Financial Responsibilities of Aero Club Members

1. Charter memberships are family memberships which can be purchased for a one-time fee of $150. This allows any family member (family is defined to include the spouse and any children 17 or under living at home) who is current and qualified in type, to pilot an aero club aircraft. The costs and conditions of future memberships may be raised at the pleasure of the Board of Directors in accordance with the by-laws of the Green Castle Aero Club, LTD.

2. Monthly dues are to be paid semi-annually or annually.

3. Should a member become delinquent in the payment of his/her monthly dues, membership in the Green Castle Aero Club, LTD will be canceled if the delinquency exceeds $120.00. Should this member wish to rejoin at a future date, he/she would pay the one-time membership fee which is in force at the time that the member wishes to rejoin.

4. Flight rates, monthly dues and hanger rent shall be determined by the Board of Directors of the Green Castle Aero Club, LTD in accordance with the corporate by-laws.

5. Instructor fees shall be arranged and paid directly to the CFI's sanctioned by the Green Castle Aero Club, LTD.

6. Credit on unpaid balances will not be extended for more than 30 days. No further use of club aircraft will be allowed until delinquent balances are paid. Payment in full at the time of aircraft usage is encouraged but not mandatory.

7. In the event of an accident in which no intentional violation of the FARs ( in the opinion of the Board of Directors ) is involved, all members will be assessed an equal amount to cover the $3,000 deductible underwritten in our current corporate insurance policy.

8. In the event of an accident, which in the opinion of the Board of Directors resulted from an intentional violation of the FARs, the pilot involved will be assessed the entire deductible of $3,000. However, the member will be given an opportunity to present his or her case before a final decision is made.

9. Any member who deliberately lands an aircraft at any place other than an airport will be totally responsible for any damage or liability caused by the incident with the exception of an emergency landing in which the PIC is not at fault.

Aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Construction

1. Certified aircraft owned by the Green Castle Aero Club, LTD will be inspected annually. The inspection protocols will be established by the Green Castle mechanics.

2. Aircraft repair and maintenance cost are to be authorized by club officers after consultation with the Board of Directors. The club treasurer will pay only bills which have been so generally authorized. This does not mean for example, that a student pilot on a cross-country flight must first consult with a club officer before purchasing fuel at a distant airport.

3. Any defect, damage or malfunction (minor or major) shall be noted in the aircraft's Maintenance Log and when possible, immediately called to the attention of the Green Castle mechanics. Mechanics will regularly check the Maintenance Logs to note such squawks. As described above, PICs should also place a note on the instrument panel of the aircraft to warn subsequent users.

4. The Green Castle Aero Club, LTD encourages home built aircraft construction or aircraft renovation. Members should make all arrangements with the Green Castle Shop manager before using the club's facilities.

Note: Members should note that there are three separate log books : The Maintenance Log, Fuel Log and Rental Logs are kept in the Flight Office.
